Mart Community Project
The Mart Community Project is an arts and humanities community revitalization initiative involving Mart residents, Mart School District, City Council, and university partnerships with Baylor University and University of Texas at Austin. The Mart Community Project evolved from an art installation construction into several oral history projects, public art created by visiting artists and Mart residents, and during the 2010-11 academic year 20 students from UT came to Mart to work on projects with community partners.
During the summer of 2011 we have several visiting artists (including two from Senegal) and UT graduate students in drama, architecture, social work, and digital media teaching classes, creating public art, organizing cultural activities for all ages, and working with the community on sustainable development projects. We can use all the help we can get from visionary and passionate folks such as love, the bus to add their energy to the mix.
