The Intervale, a little valley full of treasures
The Intervale Center (IC) is a non profit gorup nationally recogized for its work in sustainable agriculture. The IC works to enhance the viability of farms and farming in Vermont; to steward the land; and to engage the community in supporting their local food systems. Intervale Center owns 350 acres of land within Burlington city limits. This land is rented to over a dozen small organic farms who grow vegetables, berries, flowers, and chickens for the local market. The IC has many programs including a native tree nursery, the Intervale Food Hub, Success on Farms (a two year business planning program), and New Farms for New Americans (a farming program for newly arrived refugees).
